Exhibition marking the bicentenary of the death of Antonio Salieri

Moravian Museum in collaboration with the National Heritage Institut

7 May marks the bicentenary of the death of Antonio Salieri, kapellmeister of the imperial court in Vienna, a composer, teacher and music theorist.

The Moravian Museum in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute has prepared an exhibition Maestro Salieri, which presents a comprehensive view on Antonio Salieri’s life and compositional legacy, based on verified facts and documents. The exhibition also clarified the true relationship between Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

A unique collection of Salieri's manuscripts from the Moravian Museum's collections is being presented to the public for the first time, including the original of his Requiem, which the composer wrote for himself and later dedicated to his friend, Count Heinrich Wilhelm Haugwitz.

The Maestro Salieri exhibition takes place in two locations. In the Dietrichstein Palace in Brno visitors can view a collection of rare archive material and learn about the magnetic personality of Antonio Salieri. The second part of the exhibition in the arcade corridor of the Náměšt nad Oslavou chateau, former residence of the Haugwitz family, presents in more detail the extraordinary music culture of Náměšť in the time of Count Haugwitz.

Both parts of the exhibition are accompanied by a selection from Salieri’s compositions.

The exhibition is held under the patronage of
